Welcome to Fraud Awareness and Prevention Week! November 17-21, 2025, is the twelfth anniversary of Fraud Awareness and Prevention Week in Minnesota! Governor Walz proclaimed this week as Fraud Awareness and Prevention Week in Minnesota to raise awareness of the various kinds of fraud that can occur in the public and private sectors — and what people can do to prevent, detect, and report them.
Each day, we will share information all state agency employees need to know, including:

Monday, November 17 | 9:00 - 9:50 AM | Add BCA Presentation to Calendar
Tony Ofstead from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension will share emerging trends in the types of fraud being encountered and the methods used to carry them out as well as some common root causes of criminal activity observed in the fraud space.
Tuesday, November 18 | 10:30 - 11:30 AM | Add AGO Presentation to Calendar
Parker Maertz with the MN Office of Attorney General will share information on general scams encountered and red flags to watch out for.
Wednesday, November 19 | 10:00 - 11:00 AM | Add MDH Presentation to Calendar
MN Department of Health’s Office of Internal Audit and Assessment will provide insights on how to integrate fraud prevention into our daily work, the importance of professional skepticism, techniques for recognizing fraud, and tools/resources that assist with fraud prevention.
Thursday, November 20 | 9:00 - 10:00 AM | Add ACFE Presentation to Calendar
The Twin Cities Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners will share a presentation highlighting the importance of fraud prevention.
Friday, November 21 | 9:30 - 10:30 AM | Add ICA Presentation to Calendar
The Internal Control and Accountability Unit will wrap up the week with a presentation highlighting the importance of having strong internal controls in preventing fraud and the misuse of resources. The ICA team will walk through the internal control framework, with a focus on risk assessments, control activities, and monitoring practices.
