What can you do with LinkedIn Learning?

Individual Development Plans (IDPs)

Individual Development Plans (IDPs) are a tool to help you achieve your career goals as you progress in your career development journey. It captures your key goals, the activities you will do to pursue them, the resources you need, and the target completion dates. All state employees should develop an IDP every year.

You and your manager or supervisor should meet annually to update your IDP with an additional yearly check-in to discuss your IDP progress. Integrate your LinkedIn Learning coursework, learning plan, and career goal into your IDP. By aligning with LinkedIn Learning’s career development features and courses, you can stay on track with your career journey.

Set Your Career Goal and Create a Learning Plan

LinkedIn Learning can help you focus your education to reach the next level in your career development. By setting a career goal in LinkedIn Learning, you can grow and advance in your current role, work to transition to a new career, or develop skills to manage teams. The platform uses your current role and career goal to customize a learning plan for you.

Go to “My Career Journey” in the LinkedIn Learning navigation. Set your career goal and follow the prompts. Based on your answers to the prompts, LinkedIn Learning generates a learning plan to help you develop your skills.

Chat with an AI Coach

Career conversations with colleagues can be uncomfortable, especially when they’re about sensitive topics. The new AI Coach feature is a safe space for you to have conversations and get customized advice, feedback, and course recommendations.

For example, you can ask the AI Coach:

  • “How can I lead better meetings?”
  • “How can I approach difficult conversations?”

The coach uses your profile information, analyzes your learning history, asks follow-up questions, and provides personalized insights and course recommendations. Your conversations with the coach are confidential.

Take Skills Self-Evaluations

The new skills self-evaluation feature helps you understand your strengths and identify areas for growth. Our work and the technology we use is always changing and evolving. Keeping up on your skills means you’re better prepared to adapt to new challenges and technologies.

After taking an evaluation, your confidential results provide personalized suggestions on how to take your skills from beginner to intermediate to advanced. By knowing your professional development needs, you can set your learning path to focus your learning. Retake the evaluations to track your progress, realign your professional development needs, and measure your success over time.
