PAUL, MN] – Governor Tim Walz today visited Open Cupboard in Maplewood to highlight the launch of the Office of Public Service and announce the office's eight inaugural Service to Success grantees. The new office will coordinate and expand access to service opportunities across the state, helping Minnesotans find meaningful ways to contribute while creating pathways for young people to enter in-demand careers with family-sustaining wages. "The value of public service is reflected in our people. Minnesotans lead the nation in consistently giving back to their communities," said Governor Walz. "The Office of Public Service expands opportunities to engage in this vital work, while building clear pathways for all people to serve their neighbors and support their communities, ensuring Minnesota remains the best place to raise a family."

The Governor, joined by State Director of the Office of Public Service Sherene Judeh, Open Cupboard Executive Director Jessica Francis, and Department of Employment and Economic Development Commissioner Matt Varilek, announced the office's eight inaugural Service to Success grantees – organizations working to create, strengthen, and expand career pathways aligned to public service opportunities.

Grantees include:

City of Duluth Workforce Development, $50,000

Conservation Corps of MN and IA, $100,000

Ecolibrium3, $100,000

Lead for America, $100,000 

MN Alliance with Youth, $100,000

Reading and Math Inc, $100,000

Riseup Partnership, $62,500

Urban Roots, $100,000

"The Office of Public Service is a resource for people looking to engage more deeply, explore new sectors, and contribute to their communities," said State Director of the Office of Public Service Sherene Judeh.

In coordination with the launch of the Office of Public Service, Governor Walz proclaimed June as Public Service Month, encouraging Minnesotans to engage in public service throughout the month.
