Job seekers and recently graduated students that are searching for an in-demand career path with great growth potential and varied educational and training requirements should look at Caring Careers in Central Minnesota. Many of the most highly demanded occupations in the region are in Health Care, ranging from jobs that can be started with a high school diploma, such as personal care aides, and social and human service assistants, to jobs that require a professional or doctoral degree, such as anesthesiologists, occupational therapists and podiatrists.

Not only do these jobs provide a large number and wide range of job vacancies, they also offer relatively high wages, flexible schedules, job security, benefits and more; and most importantly, the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of others. If that isn't convincing enough, here are some more reasons to consider pursuing a Caring Career:

• Employers pay for your initial training in many cases – and they may also pay for future training to help you grow in your career and earn more money.
• Many employers welcome employees who are learning English.
• You do not need experience working in health care to start many entry-level positions – and many skills you earned in other fields transfer to health care and social assistance positions.
• Employers may be willing to work with you on child care, transportation, scheduling, language training and other such obstacles in their talent recruitment efforts.

In Central Minnesota, our Occupations in Demand tool showed that Home Health & Personal Care Aides were the most in demand job in 2025, followed closely by Registered Nurses, Nursing Assistants and Licensed Practical Nurses, which were all in the top 25 overall. In fact, 17 of the 100 occupations in the top tier of demand were healthcare-related, as shown in Table 1. 

Of those 17, four could be started with a high school diploma or less and some level of on-the-job training, including Home Health and Personal Care Aides, Childcare Workers, Medical Secretaries, Social & Human Service Assistants, and Recreation Workers. Another six typically required a short-term award, like a certificate or other non-degree award that can often be earned in a couple weeks, months, or less than a year, such as Nursing Assistants, Psychiatric Technicians, and Medical Assistants.

The other half require an associate, bachelor's or doctoral or professional degree. This includes Registered Nurses and Radiologic Technicians at the associate degree level, Health Services Managers and Social Workers at the bachelor's degree level, and Pharmacists and Physician Assistants that require professional degrees.
