Detection

  • DHS oversees over 390,000 care providers for fraud, waste, and abuse. The vast majority of these deliver high quality and necessary care to over a million Minnesotans each year. Our Office of Inspector General is constantly honing our methods for detecting and investigating fraudsters who harm this essential support network.
  • DHS analyzes provider data for discrepancies, allowing us to detect fraud, waste, and abuse without being tipped off.
  • Our investigators visit providers to ensure they are not committing fraud and that their services meet DHS licensing standards.
  • Our Office of Inspector General is seeking to expand our use of AI to sift large quantities of data, enhancing our early detection methods. Providers flagged by the AI would then be examined by our preliminary investigators.
