Who can make a data request?
Public data is available to any member of the public. This includes individual people, the media, government agencies, government employees, vendors, unions, companies and lawyers. The DHS Guide for members of the public requesting data (PDF) explains the public data request process.
People can obtain both public and private human services data about themselves. The DHS guide for requesting data about you (PDF) explains the process for people to seek access to their own data.
How do I make a data request?
A data request must be made in writing. We do not require a specific form to request information about yourself or public data. However, two request forms are available for your convenience:
If you do not use the form, write a specific description of the information you seek. Written requests should include:
- A statement that you are making a request for information about you under the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act
