Need help paying for substance use disorder treatment?

The Behavioral Health Fund may be able to help. The Behavioral Health Fund pays for substance use disorder treatment for those individuals who apply for the program and meet eligibility requirements. The program is designed to support individuals that fall within certain income limits that either:

  1. Have no health insurance or
  2. Have health insurance that does not cover 100% of the cost of substance use disorder treatment.

On July 1, 2026, the administration of the Behavioral Health Fund program will move from county and tribal agencies to Minnesota Department of Human Services. This webpage is designed to be a central point to access information about the program, as well as apply for the program.

If you are seeking information or support related to the Behavioral Health Fund on or before 6/30/2026, please contact your local county social services agency or tribal social service agency.

If you are determined to be eligible for the Behavioral Health Fund program, you will be granted 60 consecutive calendar days of eligibility to seek substance use disorder treatment paid for by the Behavioral Health Fund. The Behavioral Health Fund will make payment directly to the substance use disorder treatment provider enrolled as a Minnesota Health Care Program provider.
