Have total housing costs that are more than 40 percent of your total income
Apply for rental assistance, if eligible.
You must also meet one of the following criteria:
Be moving to the community from an institution (hospital, regional treatment center inpatient services, a nursing facility, or an intermediate care facility for persons with developmental disabilities) or an intensive residential treatment services for persons with serious mental health problems.
Be eligible for Medical Assistance (MA) personal care assistance (PCA) services and be able to hire, fire, supervise and manage the PCA (or have a parent or legal guardian with authority to do so)
Be living in your own home or apartment and getting services through a home and community-based waiver.
The monthly benefit is $194 for 2017. It will be added to your monthly MSA award. The amount can change every year.
The money can be used to help pay for things like:
Mortgage and interest payments, insurance for your home and property taxes
Manufactured home lot rental
Utilities like heat, air conditioning, electricity, water, sewer, garbage and phone.
If you already get MSA, ask your county worker if you qualify for housing assistance.
If you apply online or using the paper application form, check that you are requesting "cash assistance." Write in the notes section that you are requesting Minnesota Supplemental Aid (MSA) Housing assistance.
