Cannabis Industry Startup Financing (CanStartup)
CanStartup is a program to award grants to nonprofit corporations to fund loans to new cannabis microbusinesses and to support job creation in communities where long-term residents are eligible to be Social Equity Applicants. Grants to nonprofits corporations will be through a competitive grant process. This program was created by the 2023 Minnesota legislature.
Proposals to be a nonprofit lender partner are being accepted from March 10 to April 9. The Request for Proposals.
We will provide an approved list of nonprofit lender partners by the end of May 2025.
Overview
Through nonprofit lending partners, CanStartup provides funding for loans that must be used to support a new cannabis microbusiness in the Minnesota legal cannabis industry. Priority must be given to provide loans to business owned by individuals who are eligible to be Social Equity Applicants. Eligibility as a Social Equity Applicant is determined by the Office of Cannabis Management through the social equity verification process.
