Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS)

Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS) are a set of services that were developed to bring restorative, recovery-oriented interventions directly to individuals who have the capacity to benefit from them, whether in their homes or elsewhere in the community. ARMHS includes four components: basic living and social skills, community intervention, medication education, and transitioning to community living.

Become a provider

There are many steps required to become a successful ARMHS provider. Complete the following steps in the order given.

  1. Read the legislation and the FAQs to gain an understanding of ARMHS.
  2. If not already done, start your Business or Non-Profit – disclaimer: we are unable to provide any assistance with starting your business.
  3. Have all clinical staff complete the pre-requisite online trainings before enrolling and attending the information session. These trainings will take some time, so please plan accordingly.
  4. Enroll in the mandatory information session – offered quarterly
    • Both the business person, and clinical supervisor(s) must attend.
    • The registration will close the Wednesday night before the session.
  5. Complete the Application DHS-7181 (PDF)
  6. Complete the Branch Office Application DHS-7181C (PDF) (if applicable)
  7. Complete the Provider Certification Requirements DHS-7181A (PDF).
    • All of the applications/requirements must be filled out electronically.
  8. Use the Checklist to ensure your application is complete.
  9. Submit your signed application(s), with attachments, and signed certification requirements to: dhs.mhrehab-adult@state.mn.us
    • The Application, Branch Office Application and Certification Requirements must be the original eDocs, and may not be altered. All documentation must be filled out electronically.
    • Applications may take approximately 5 weeks for DHS/MHD Staff to review, and may be longer due to scheduling.

If approved, you will then need to enroll with Provider Enrollment, pay the fee, and receive an onsite visit from the Office of Inspector General. Upon final approval from Provider Enrollment, you may then start providing services. This part of the process could take up to 3 additional months.

Branch office certification of a provider

ARMHS providers are required to complete additional applications for each branch office they will operate out of. The following steps should be utilized to ensure a successful submission.

  1. Have all clinical staff at the branch location complete the pre-requisite online trainings if they have not already done so. These trainings will take some time, so plan accordingly.
  2. Complete the Branch Office Application – DHS-7181C (PDF)
  3. Complete the Certification Requirements – DHS-7181A (PDF)
  4. Submit the following to dhs.mhrehab-adult@state.mn.us:
    • Signed branch office application
    • Signed certification requirements
    • Attachments
    • The Application and Certification Requirements must be the original eDocs, and may not be altered. All documentation must be filled out electronically.
