Notice about recent data breach impacting some DHS clients

1/30/2019 3:59:38 PM

State agencies, including the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS), continue to be the target of increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks. Recently, hackers accessed the state email account of a DHS employee, potentially exposing the private information of some people who had a connection with our Children and Family Services area. The hacker used this email account to send out spam email messages and may have accessed some of the information contained in the email account. We took steps to secure the email account, and currently have no evidence that any information was actually viewed, downloaded or misused in any way.

We take data privacy very seriously at DHS, and continue to work with our employees and partners to prevent cyberattacks. You can find out more about the recent cyberattack and our response to it by reading the /dhs/assets/notification-letter_tcm1053-370211.pdfnotification letter (PDF), emailing csp.general.admin.dhs@state.mn.us or by calling 651-431-2854 (local) or 833-633-8121 (toll free).
