How to spot and report Medicaid fraud
A fraudster’s goal is to get your personal information by signing you up for their health care program. Once they have it, they bill for fake services in your name. Knowing the warning signs can help protect your personal information and your benefits.
Think TWICE if someone:
- Offers you rewards for your information, like cash, gift cards, free food delivery services, transportation money, or other incentives.
- Offers transportation to out-of-state treatment or other services.
- Pressures you to sign up quickly. Fraudsters often approach people in public places and try to rush decisions.
- Says services are “free” but asks for your Medicaid ID to bill the program.
- Contacts you unexpectedly asking for your Medicaid ID, Social Security number, or personal information.
- Asks you to sign blank forms or sign paperwork multiple times without explaining why.
- Tells you not to tell your case manager, doctor, or MN DHS about the services.
- Lists services or diagnosis you didn’t receive on your Explanation of Benefits.
What should I do if I suspect fraud?
REPORT IT. Fraud is intentional deception that results in financial or personal gain. You do not need to be certain to report your concerns. If something feels suspicious, trust your instincts — your actions can help protect both you and your community.
