DHS moves to terminate Housing Stabilization Services program
On Aug. 1, the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS), under the guidance of its own DHS Office of Inspector General, moved to terminate the Housing Stabilization Services program. In a letter sent Friday from DHS Temporary Commissioner Shireen Gandhi to the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, DHS requested the unprecedented step of ending the Minnesota program.

Opioid fight continues with $15 million in new grants
Updated spending dashboard shows where state and local funds are going. New state grants will build on Minnesota’s recent progress in addressing opioid abuse. Grants totaling $15 million will expand services for people suffering from opioid use disorder and make it easier to get help.

Agency transition completed July 1, 2025

On May 23, 2023, Gov. Tim Walz signed into law two pieces of legislation that brought big changes to the Department of Human Services (DHS), creating the new Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) and establishing the Department of Direct Care and Treatment (DCT) as a standalone agency. After two years of thoughtful planning and implementation, the transition to three thriving agencies is now complete.
