Long Distance is available to non-executive branch customers via negotiated contracts between MNIT and commercial service providers. The governing contracts for these services are negotiated to provide rates and terms favorable to the state.
MNIT’s Long Distance telephone service offering provides incoming and outgoing call traffic to non-executive branch state and local government entities within Minnesota. Call traffic is handled over existing public switched telephone network (PSTN) facilities or session initiation protocol (SIP) trunks.
Non-executive branch state customers and other institutions that use MNIT’s local telephone service contracts are automatically provisioned with contracted long-distance service. That means they have the capability for state, national, Canadian, and Mexican long distance and directory assistance calling. However, the customer is billed separately for all long distance and directory assistance calls made by their staff. MNIT’s state contract for long distance services includes:
- Intrastate calling (within Minnesota)
- Interstate calling (outside Minnesota)
- International calling (011)
