The Minnesota Department of Health is modernizing the Minnesota Stroke Portal to improve efficiency, enhance security, and elevate customer service. This update aims to create a more automated, secure, and easily supported application, better serving the needs of our partners, particularly hospitals.
The Minnesota Stroke Registry is the cornerstone of the Minnesota Stroke Program, established in 2008 through a collaboration between the MN Stroke Program and MNIT. However, the current system is outdated and unable to support the exponential growth it has experienced. Over the past decade, there has been a 526% increase in designated hospitals and a 683% increase in users.
Stroke is the 5th leading cause of death and one of the leading causes of disability in Minnesota. If diagnosed quickly, there are treatment options to help patients recover. Alarmingly, stroke hospitalization rates have increased in younger populations, particularly among people of color. The Minnesota Stroke Registry includes over 20,000 cases entered annually, leading to a broad range of quality improvement efforts tailored to individual programs and statewide initiatives.
Updating the Minnesota Stroke Portal is crucial for addressing these challenges and ensuring the Registry can continue to support vital quality improvement efforts, enhance patient outcomes, and maintain robust data security and efficiency.
Value: The portal enhancements will elevate both internal and external customer user experiences, mitigate security risks, and bolster system resiliency. Success will be measured by improved user satisfaction, strengthened security, and increased system reliability.
Impact: Update the Minnesota Stroke Registry to ensure compliance with state-mandated reporting, meet funding requirements, and enhance user satisfaction. This modern solution will secure current and future federal funding, positioning the program for continued success and support.
