Jon Eichten
Jon Eichten serves as Commissioner and State Chief Information Officer for Minnesota IT Services (MNIT). In this role, he leads the State of Minnesota’s enterprise technology strategy and oversees the delivery of secure, reliable technology services that support executive branch agencies and the people they serve.
As Commissioner, Eichten oversees both MNIT's centralized services, as well as the work of embedded MNIT teams working in agencies across the executive branch, to enable state government operations and the evolution of state services. Jon works closely with agency leaders to ensure the alignment of enterprise IT strategy with the unique missions of MNIT's state agency partners, while partnering to modernize the State's service delivery systems and ensure that technology investments support effective and responsive public services.
Over the past decade, Eichten has served in multiple leadership roles at MNIT, helping shape enterprise technology policy, budget strategy, and cross-agency initiatives that support Minnesota’s statewide technology infrastructure. Before becoming Commissioner, Jon served as MNIT’s Deputy Commissioner for over seven years, where he oversaw enterprise business operations, agency partner relationship management, and agency-based application services.
Earlier in his career, Eichten worked on several government transformation initiatives as a staff member in the Minnesota Senate, including the establishment of the Commission on Service Innovation in 2010 and the passage of the State’s IT consolidation law in 2011. Eichten joined MNIT in 2012, where he led legislative strategy and developed policy and budget proposals supporting Minnesota’s enterprise IT transformation.
Jon holds a degree in Political Science from Carleton College.
