Aircraft Registration System

Summary: This Minnesota Department of Transporation (MnDOT) project aims to enhance and streamline the Aircraft Registration System, addressing critical technical issues and complexities identified in the legacy Aeronautics system. The upgrades are necessary to mitigate risks and improve efficiency for aircraft owners and commercial entities in the aviation industry.  

The project involves retiring the outdated application before the peak season in May/June 2024, with enhancements benefiting over 6,000 Minnesota aircraft owners and 1,000 businesses and airports. These enhancements enable online application filing, fee payment, and account management, replacing traditional paper-based processes. 

Additionally, back-office improvements will enhance functionality to support aviation businesses, ensuring data accuracy and integrity. The upgraded system will provide better tools for notifying and assisting aircraft owners in managing their aircraft, aligning with the needs outlined in the One Minnesota Plan. 

Value: Enhance the public-facing portal and back-office enhancements, which will add functionality and improve customer experience. 

Impact: Develop an aircraft registration and licensing system that meets customer expectations in accordance with One Minnesota goals and aligns with agency innovation objectives.
