Four Minnesota technology initiatives earned national recognition as finalists for the 2026 State IT Recognition Awards.
The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) selected the projects from nearly 140 submissions by states and territories. The annual awards recognize technology innovations that solve critical problems, improve government operations, and make it easier for people to access services.
Minnesota’s finalists represent collaboration among Minnesota IT Services (MNIT), agency partners and teams across state government.

Minnesota Paid Leave launched in January 2026 to provide workers with paid time away from work when they need to care for themselves or their families. The team used extensive user research and testing to create a service designed around the needs of Minnesota workers and employers.

CloudRAMP provides Minnesota agencies with a secure, standardized foundation for building and managing cloud-based technology. By creating reusable tools, processes and security controls, CloudRAMP helps agencies deliver modern services faster while reducing duplication and managing risk across state government.

The Direct Admissions program makes it easier for Minnesota high school seniors to explore their college options. The technology platform matches eligible students with participating colleges and universities based on their academic records. Students can see where they qualify for admission before applying, while schools spend less time completing manual administrative work. MNIT developed the platform in partnership with the Minnesota Office of Higher Education.

Together, these projects show how Minnesota uses technology to modernize government, strengthen operations, and improve the services Minnesotans rely on. They also demonstrate what state agencies can accomplish through strong partnerships, thoughtful design and a shared focus on the people we serve.
We are proud to see the work of our teams and agency partners recognized nationally.
NASCIO will announce the award recipients during its 2026 Annual Conference later this month. View the full list of 2026 State IT Recognition Award finalists.
