    Today is International Women's Day, part of a month-long recognition of Women’s History Month — a time to reflect on the contributions of women throughout history and recognize the leaders who continue to drive change today. To celebrate, we are sharing insights from women at MNIT.

    Taking initiative and making your voice heard

    MNIT Assistant Commissioner & Chief Transformation Officer Zarina Baber encourages women to take initiative and speak up. She echoes the words of Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to Congress and a pioneering presidential candidate: “If there’s no seat at the table, bring your own chair.” Baber’s message is clear—women should not wait for permission to lead but should instead carve out their own space and seize opportunities.

    The power of boundaries and asking for help 

    Axelina Swenson, an IT Operations Analyst at MNIT, shares the importance of setting boundaries, seeking wisdom from others, and embracing the unknown. Leadership isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about knowing when to ask for guidance. Her perspective underscores the value of continuous learning and collaboration in personal and professional growth. 

    The ongoing fight for equality 

    An Integrated Solution Support Supervisor, Colette Johnson, reminds us that while progress has been made, the fight for equal opportunities continues. She highlights key areas where change is still needed, including gender-based violence, education, healthcare, and economic security. Johnson’s words serve as both a call to action and a reminder that advocacy remains crucial.
