The Minnesota Department of Health in partnership with MNIT have developed the Source Water Protection (SWP) application. This new application, called SWP Tracker, is vital to Minnesota’s efforts to accurately report water safety compliance to the Environmental Protection Agency and Minnesota Clean Water Fund. In addition, the new application is able to track the development, implementation and evaluation of a wellhead protection plan. This is an important step, as it is a way to prevent drinking water from becoming polluted, by managing potential sources of contamination in the area. The SWP Tracker also allows staff to collaborate with water suppliers by tracking the actions and progress of a wellhead plan.
Up to 75 MDH staff, five Minnesota Rural Water Association staff, and Public Water Supply Plan Managers representing the 960 Community public water supplies in MN use the new application.
