To celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), Minnesota IT Services’ (MNIT) Office of Accessibility hosted two virtual events for State of Minnesota employees. The goal was to get everyone talking, thinking, and learning about digital accessibility and inclusion. The presentations showcased the value of accessibility and how to include accessibility in meetings. Below are links to YouTube video recordings of each session. All recordings include ASL interpreting and closed captioning.
People talk about digital accessibility, but what does it mean? How does digital accessibility or the lack of it affect people? Lived experiences of people with disabilities are the most powerful ways to learn why accessibility matters. The panel included a variety of individuals with disabilities. They discussed how they navigate technology, and the difference digital accessibility makes in their work and personal lives. Governor Tim Walz kicked off the event with a recorded welcome announcing May 18 as Digital Accessibility Awareness Day.
