SAINT PAUL, May 5 2016 - The Minnesota Department of Minnesota (Admin) was recognized with the Governor's Safety Award for excellence in workplace safety and health today.
"We have worked to change our culture so that safety is a key component in all employees' daily routines" said Commissioner Matt Massman. "From properly approaching a job to being a part of supervisor's performance evaluations, our staff understands that leaving work safe and sound is an organizational value. The result is a steady decline in workplace injuries."
Since 1934, the annual Governor's Safety Awards program has honored Minnesota employers with exceptional safety performance. Applicants are judged on several years of injury data as it compares with their industry's national statistics, and on their progress in implementing a comprehensive safety program. Admin reduced its recordable injuries by 47% between 2013 and 2015.
The Governor's Safety Awards luncheon is part of the 82nd Minnesota Safety and Health Conference, coordinated by the Minnesota Safety Council. The conference is the oldest and largest gathering of workplace safety and health professionals in the region. The Minnesota Safety Council, founded in 1928, is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in Minnesota by preventing unintentional injuries ("accidents").
