    PopFinder For Cities and Townships

    Use the "PopFinder" tool below to locate the total population, number of households, and persons per household for any of Minnesota's cities or townships, organized by the county they reside in, from 2000 through 2022. Cities that cross county boundaries are segmented by each county's portion, as well as appearing in total under "Multi-County City" in the "Within County" column. Hover over any column heading to sort, or type in the open fields to locate a specific place or year.

    Note: The number of persons per household will be released by the U.S. Census Bureau soon.

    Notes

    • New estimates are released annually in late July for the prior year. All data are dated to April 1.
    • "EDR" refers to Economic Development Region. Click for a map showing which EDRs comprise which counties in Minnesota. (external site)
    • "PPH" refers to persons per household. This is calculated by dividing the household population by the number of households in any given geography. The household population does not equal the total population because some residents live in "group quarters" settings (such as college dormitories, nursing facilities, shelters, treatment centers, religious orders, military barracks, or correctional facilities), and thus are not living in households. 
    • The U.S. Census Bureau conducts the 10-year (decennial) census, and is the source for all data for years ending in "---0". Revisions from the Count Question Resolution program are reflected here. The Minnesota State Demographic Center (our office) and the Metropolitan Council jointly produce population and household estimates for years between the decennial counts. The Met Council produces the estimates for the seven counties of Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, and Washington, as well as all cities and townships within those counties. Our office produces the estimates for the other 80 Minnesota counties outside of the 7-county metro, as well as all cities and townships within those counties.
