Historic Preservation Planning Projects, Funded Through the Legacy Grant Program
Funding historic preservation planning documents may seem like a substantial undertaking; thankfully, in Minnesota, we are fortunate to have the Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant program (MHCH or Legacy grant) which may be able to provide funding support. The program is administered by the Minnesota Historical Society’s (MNHS) Grants Office. Certain historic preservation projects must also be reviewed by the Minnesota State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). The frequently asked questions below are intended to help an applicant determine which office to contact with questions and to navigate the overall review process. Under most circumstances a grant applicant will work with the Grants Office and the chosen consultant will work with the SHPO.
What types of projects/grants are considered Historic Preservation Planning Projects?
