OES supports agencies through sustainability reporting, planning, technical assitance, project implementation, and shared tools and best practices.

Minnesota state government tracks enterprise sustainability goals for greenhouse gas emissions, energy, sustainable procurement, fleet fossil fuel use, solid waste, and water. 

Enterprise sustainability goals:

  1. Greenhouse Gas Emissions: reduce greenhouse gas emissions 50% by 2030 from 2005 levels.
  2. Energy Consumption: reduce building energy use (per square foot) 30% by 2030 from 2017 levels.
  3. Sustainable Procurement: include sustainable elements in 50% of all issued solicitations, as applicable. 
  4. Fleet Fossil Fuel Consumption: reduce State Fleet consumption of fossil fuels 30% by 2030 from 2017 levels. 
  5. Solid Waste: achieve a 75% combined recycling and composting rate of solid waste by 2030.
  6. Water Consumption: reduce building water use (per square foot) 15% by 2030 from 2017 levels.

How OES supports state agencies

  1. Report: Manage annual sustainability metrics and reporting and provide a public dashboard for tracking progress. 
  2. Plan: Develop enterprise-level plans and help agencies develop and implement their own sustainability plans. 
  3. Implement: Provide technical assistance and support for projects and programs, including solid waste, energy efficiency, renewable energy, fleet electrification, sustainable procurement, communications, and engagement. 
  4. Champion: Share tools and best practices, identify resources and opportunities, and help agencies advance sustainability initiatives.
