Roles & Responsibilities

Assessing and supporting a student's needs for Assistive Technology is a partnership among team members requires shared responsibility in decision making and commitment by all team members across environments. Team members actively participate in the process by:

Completing assistive technology training sessions and competencies with proficiency,
Collecting data and contributing valuable information regarding the student's abilities and needs,
Linking and embedding assistive technology within the student's curriculum,
Designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating during the trial period,
Supporting and encouraging the student's use of AT to meet the desired outcomes, and
Contacting the assigned consultant regarding team needs, concerns, and questions.

Administrator
- Monitors and supports team members during the AT process
- Recognizes the District's responsibilities for AT
Aide
- Completes paperwork (ex: STL summaries) and collects data
- Attends training and learns technology
- Supports and encourages student's use of equipment within the curriculum
Assistive Technology Consultant (ATC)
- Coordinates and monitors the team process
- Provides guidance and training for Short Term Loan process
- Moderates team meetings and action plans
- Completes paperwork
- Provides low- and high-technology strategies
- Explains team members' responsibilities
- Supports the team with data collection and review
Contact Person/Equipment Manager
- Arranges team meetings
- Collects and organizes data/paperwork
- Notifies ATC when equipment arrives
- Communicates team needs to ATC
- Monitors and maintains equipment
- Arranges for student/equipment needs as grade levels/environments change
Family
- Attends team meetings and completes paperwork
- Provides information about their child's capabilities, health, daily routines, cultures or interaction styles
- Attends trainings and learns the technology
- Maintains and assures security of the equipment
- Collects data on student' use of the technology
Occupational/Physical Therapist
- Makes recommendations regarding motor, sensory, access, range of motion, endurance, and positioning issues
- Provides gross/fine motor strategies for accessing the technology
- Supports the team throughout the process

- Demonstrates a need for assistive technology
- Demonstrates a desire to use technology
- Expresses likes, dislikes, and expectations
- Participates in the trial process
Teachers
- Implement Action Plan, complete paperwork, and collect data on equipment use across the curriculum
- Provide information about the student's skill levels, needs, and classroom routines
- Attend trainings and learns technology
- Facilitate student's use of technology within the curriculum
- Maintain and assure security of the equipment across educational environments
- Develop transition plans for the equipment as needed
