Are You Ready for Winter?

It's that time of year again, chilly weather is here, some people love it, some people hate it. We slip, we slide, and we shiver.

It also means less daylight and icy walking and driving conditions.

Each year, several injuries occur throughout the state as a result of slips on ice; some being serious injuries. As with all injuries, they are preventable.

These incidents occur as we "relearn" the act of driving and walking in the snow and icy conditions.

We need to prepare ourselves, our families and our cars for the months ahead.

Walking Surface – Be Attentive

  • Be extra cautious after a snow fall in parking lots and on sidewalks.
  • Watch for black ice in the morning and at night.
  • Hold hand rails when using stairs.
  • Keep hands out of your pockets to prevent you from loosing balance if you slip.
  • Always report icy conditions.
  • Take short steps when walking in snow or on ice. Walk like a penguin.
