The 9:30 p.m. fireworks will be choreographed to an all-Minnesota music soundtrack

Saint Paul – Governor Mark Dayton and Lt. Governor Smith invites Minnesotans to a special Minnesota music themed fireworks show on Saturday, August 12 to celebrate the Grand Opening of the Minnesota State Capitol. The fireworks will be synced to an all Minnesota music soundtrack of 17 songs by 17 Minnesota artists.
The fireworks extravaganza will start at 9:30 p.m. following the free Cloud Cult and Poliça concert on the front lawn of the State Capitol building. The Capitol has extensive grounds that can comfortably accommodate thousands. The spectacular 24-minute display is made possible by the generous support of JE Dunn, the construction company that served as the general contractor for the Capitol Restoration Project. The fireworks show is designed and put on by RES Specialty Pyrotechnics, which is based in Belle Plaine, Minnesota.
The fireworks are part of the Minnesota State Capitol Grand Opening Celebration on August 11, 12, and 13 at the fully restored Minnesota State Capitol. The can’t miss three-day event celebrates the restored “People’s House” with a diverse mix of music, dance, and presentations. There are activities for people of all ages on the Capitol grounds. Events include an official ribbon cutting ceremony and DJ Dudley D Prince Dance Party on Friday. Saturday’s lineup features the Cap Untapped craft beer garden, the Cloud Cult/Poliça concert followed by fireworks. On Sunday, sing along at Bring the Sing on the Capitol Green, presented by Classical MPR and VocalEssence, and listen to the Sounds of Blackness. Each day starts with yoga on the Capitol lawn, a Kid's Zone, "Hotdish" lectures, and exclusive tours of the fully restored Capitol.
Metro Transit will provide free rides to the Capitol on Friday evening and all day Saturday and Sunday, and admission to the Celebration will be free of cost. Accessible, fun, and family-friendly – the Capitol Grand Opening is sure to be one of the biggest events of the summer and a can’t-miss event for Minnesotans of all ages.
