This multi-day event will celebrate the completion of this historic restoration and the Minnesotans who made it possible with entertainment, commemorative and educational events.

SAINT PAUL – The Department of Administration announced today that the Minnesota State Capitol Grand Opening Celebration will take place August 11-13, 2017. The multi-day celebration will commemorate the completion of the $310 million restoration of the State Capitol with entertainment, commemorative, and educational events in and around the building.
Although the Capitol will open on January 3 for the legislative session, construction will still be ongoing in and around the building. The Grand Opening in August will be the public’s first opportunity to see the fully completed restoration.
“The Grand Opening is an opportunity to say thank you to those who made the restoration possible – the people of Minnesota and the talented workers,” said Administration Commissioner Matthew Massman. “We will celebrate a building that has been restored to serve the state for another century and is reflective of the Minnesota of today.”
Construction work that will continue into 2017 includes removing temporary parking lots and installing new landscaping, repairing and replacing the copper portions of the roof, and completion of plaster repairs, decorative painting, installation of light fixtures and other details. Portions of the interior ground and third floors will be closed during this process, as will roof access to the Quadriga sculpture.
