Saint Paul – The State Capitol will be temporarily closed from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 8. There will be electrical outages throughout the day as power is connected for updated heating units inside of the Capitol Dome. Saturday’s work is part of the Capitol Restoration Project. Minnesota Historical Society tours will not take place on Saturday but resume on Sunday, April 9.
The Minnesota State Capitol Restoration Project is a $310 million renovation and repair initiative. The project has focused on repairing the deteriorating exterior stone, addressing life-safety concerns, replacing outdated mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, and making more space available to the public.
The construction phase of the restoration project began in fall 2013 and will wrap-up this summer with the Minnesota Grand Opening Celebration, August 11-13.
