State of Minnesota joins Nice Ride Minnesota's Employer Match Program to create a cheaper, better commute for state employees

Discounted subscriptions and new bike-sharing stations arrive at the Capitol Complex as Nice Ride's 2016 season gets underway

SAINT PAUL - State employees interested in riding bikes to work can now do so more easily than ever, thanks to a new partnership between the Minnesota Department of Administration (Admin) and Nice Ride Minnesota. Admin has joined the popular bike-sharing service's Employer Match program to offer discounted subscriptions to eligible employees. The discount program takes effect as Nice Ride's 2016 season gets underway and also coincides with the arrival of two new bike-sharing stations on Minnesota's State Capitol Complex.

Participating in Nice Ride's Employer Match program is a great opportunity for Admin and state employees, explained Commissioner Matt Massman. It helps us in our ongoing efforts to meet state employees' diverse transit needs, while also promoting employee health and wellness, empowering sustainable government operations, and maintaining the State Capitol Complex.

State employees who choose to participate will pay $45 for an annual subscription to Nice Ride, saving $30 off the standard rate. Admin covers half of the discount and Nice Ride matches the other half. Employees manage their accounts and make payments independently using Nice Ride's standard options, making the program efficient and hassle-free for both the state and employees. The State of Minnesota joins Hennepin County, Fairview Health Services, and numerous other area employers who have partnered with Nice Ride to offer discounted rates to employees.

State employees working on the Capitol Complex will also have an easier time finding bikes to ride, as two new Nice Ride stations have recently been installed in the area. That brings the total number of stations around the Capitol Complex to five.

The Nice Ride program is part of Admin's overall portfolio of transportation options for state employees, which includes contract and public parking, discounted employee transit passes, and other commuting and ride-sharing programs.

We recognize the importance of making it easier for employees to bike or take transit to work, said Massman. As one of the largest employers in the state, we are constantly competing for the best talent, and transportation options like Nice Ride can help us recruit the next generation of state workers and leaders. Offerings like Nice Ride also work to ease the persistent demands on our parking and transportation infrastructure and help preserve our environment for future generations.
