Create a Redirect Page

Create a structure group for short URLs

If you are setting up a redirect page as part of a short URL (example: https://mn.gov/deed/ssb/), then you will also need to set up a structure group using the steps below.

1. Navigate to 050 [Your website] > root
2. In this folder, create a new structure group:
   • Name: enter a name for your structure group here, beginning with 999. (We recommend using 999 to label all short URL folders.) 
   • Directory: enter the name of the short URL that will come after your agency's name in the URL. For example, if this structure group was being created for DEED's State Services for the Blind office, "ssb" would be entered in this field in order to create the short URL https://mngov/deed/ssb/
   • Publishable: make sure this box is checked.
   • Page Template: you can leave this field as is (the "Inherit from Parent" box should be checked).
   • Metadata Schema: leave this field as is ("Structure Group Metadata" is the default). 
   • Display in Navigation: uncheck both the Live and Staging boxes. Short URLs should never appear in your navigation.
   • Site Template: leave this drop down blank.

Save and close your component.

Create the Redirect component

Below are the fields to complete for a Redirect component:

1. Name: enter a name for your component here. 
2. Schema: select Redirect
3. InternalLink: if you wish to link to a page within your website, click the browse folder icon , navigate to a component that is included in the published page you want to redirect to, and select the component.
4. ExternalLink: if you wish to link to a separate website, enter the URL in this field.
5. Time to Redirect: enter the time, in seconds, that the redirect page should display before redirecting. If you want it to redirect instantly, put 0 in this field. 
6. Text: enter any headlines or text that should appear on the redirect page here. This is a rich-text field that accepts bold font, italics, bulleted lists, and more. (This content will not display on the page if your Time to Redirect is set to 0.)

Save and close your component.

Create Redirect page

1. In the 050 section, navigate to (or create) the structure group where the Redirect page will reside.
2. Create a new page.
3. Fill in the Name, File Name, Page Display Name, Dublin Core Title, and Dublin Core Description fields.
   • If you are creating this redirect page as part of a short URL, and created the optional structure group described in a previous step, be sure to enter "index" in the File Name field.
4. For the Page Template field, uncheck the "Inherit From Parent" box, and select Redirect from the drop-down.
5. Click the Design tab.
6. Click the Add button:
   1. Navigate to the Redirect component you created in step 1, select it, apply the Redirect component template, and insert it into the page.
7. Close the Insert Component Presentation pop-up window.
8. Save and Close your page.

Publish the Redirect page

When you've completed all the steps above, then all you need to do next is publish your page.

Navigate to the page you built in step 3, right-click on it and select Publishing > Publish.

Select the site you wish to publish to and click Publish. This will send the page to the publishing queue. 

You will need to republish the navigation after publishing a new page.
