Maintain an A to Z Index

Once you have an A to Z Index created, you will need to do occasional maintenance such as adding or removing listings, or editing link descriptions. Below are tips for keeping your page updated and in good working order.

Edit Existing Link Titles and Descriptions

The links and descriptions that display on the A to Z Index Page are controlled by the metadata for the page associated with the link. The title/link that shows up on the A to Z Index page is generated by the Page Display Name field (#1 below). The description for a link, on the A to Z Index page, is generated by the Dublin Core Description field (#2 below) on a page. An example is shown below using the metadata for the page "000 Creating a Component" (on the left below), which is used in the A to Z Index (on the right below).

Below are some sample instructions for editing a link title or description:
1. Open the page associated with the link you wish to change (like "000 Creating a Component" in the picture below)
2. Edit the Page Display Name field (for link titles) or the Dublin Core Description field (for link descriptions).
3. Save and Close the page.
4. Republish the A to Z Index page (not the page you just saved and closed).
Tip: any changes you make to the Page Display Name field will also show up in the top and left navigation menus!
Remove Links from the A to Z Index Page

Unfortunately, unpublishing a page does not remove it from the A to Z Index - it simply creates a broken link on the A to Z Index page!

In order to remove a page from the A to Z Index, you must open the page and do one of the following:
- If the page has only one A to Z Index category assigned to it, to remove that category you must click on the gray X located at the end of the Index Category field:
- If the page has multiple A to Z Index categories assigned to it, you can remove categories by clicking on the trashcan located at the beginning of the Index Category field:
After you've removed all the categories from the page(s) you need to remove from the A to Z Index, then you'll need to republish the A to Z Index page as described in step 6 of Creating an A to Z Index.
Add Links to the A to Z Index Page

To add more pages, just complete steps 5 and 6 as described on the Creating an A to Z Index page. When you republish the A to Z Index page, the new content will show up.
