General Content component
The General Content component is a relatively simple component, with only 7 fields. However, the content in it can be rendered in numerous ways, as illustrated below in the Component Templates section.
The Component

Below are the fields that make up a General Content component, and tips for completing them. Most of these fields are only used as needed, depending on which component template you pick. See the Component Templates section below for more guidance on when each field is needed.
Name: enter a name for your file
- Schema: select General Content
- Title: enter the title, or headline, of your content here
- Content: this is where the full text of your content goes. This is a rich-text field that accepts images, tables, links, and other formatting.
- Feature title: enter the title, or headline, of your content here
- Feature description: enter a 2-3 sentence description of your content here.
- Feature image: select an image for your content by clicking the browse folder icon
and navigating to the image you want to use.
- Feature image description: enter a brief description of the image.
- Feature thumbnail: select an image for your content by clicking the browse folder icon
and navigating to the image you want to use.
Component Templates
The General Content component has 21 component templates, which render the component content in very different ways. Below are descriptions and examples of each component template, so you can decide which is best for the page you are building.
Callout Boxes

Callout Box Quotes
The Callout Box Quotes component template allows the page creator to add highlighted text quotes to the right column of a General Content page. Below is what a Callout Box Quote looks like, highlighted in red.
To create a Callout Box Quote for a page, you must complete the following fields in the General Content component:
- Title (#3) is a required field, but the content will not display anywhere on the page. You can enter anything into this field.
- Content (#4) is where you enter the content that will appear in the Callout Box Quote. The default CSS will place thick dark gray bars above and below the quote, and use larger text, but you should add any other formatting that you wish to appear. For example, using the quote pictured above, the italics and spacing were applied directly to the content in this field.
Callout Box Quotes can only be used with the Internal General Content with Right Column page template.
Callout Box Sidebar Content
The Callout Box Sidebar Content component template allows the page creator to add highlighted text quotes to the right column of a General Content page. Below is what the Callout Box Sidebar Content looks like, highlighted in red.
To create a Callout Box Sidebar Content for a page, you must complete the following fields in the General Content component:
- Title (#3) is a required field, but the content will not display anywhere on the page. You can enter anything into this field.
- Content (#4) is where you enter the content that will appear in the Callout Box Sidebar Content. The default CSS will place thick dark gray bars above and below the quote, and use larger text, but you should add any other formatting that you wish to appear. For example, using the quote pictured above, the italics and spacing were applied directly to the content in this field.
Callout Box Sidebar Content can only be used with the Internal General Content with Right Column page template.
Feature Spotlights

Feature Spotlights
The Feature Spotlight (with H2 or H3 heading) component templates allows the page creator to add prominent links to other pages. Below is what a Feature Spotlight page looks like. It includes options for having Feature Spotlights with 2 different heading (aka title) sizes, and optional feature spotlight pictures.
To create a Feature Spotlight for a page, you must complete the following fields in the General Content component:
- Title field (#3) is a required field that must be completed for all General Content components. The contents of this field will not display anywhere on the Feature Spotlights web page, but it will display on the page the spotlight links to.
- Feature title (#5) is the field where you enter the title of the Feature Spotlight.
- Feature description (#6) is the field where you enter the description of the Feature Spotlight, which appears underneath the title.
- Feature image description (#8) only needs to be completed if you add a Feature Thumbnail (#9) to your spotlight. In this field, enter a brief description of the thumbnail image. The contents of this field will only display to screen readers for blind and visually impaired users.
- Feature thumbnail (#9) is an optional field. If you wish to add images to your Feature Spotlight, this is the field where you would select them.
Tip: Make sure that you size all your Feature Spotlight images before uploading them into Tridion, and make sure all the images have the same heights and widths - otherwise you'll wind up with Feature Spotlights that are not uniform in appearance.
General Content

General Content
The General Content component templates allows the page creator to add a chunk of text to a page. The text can include images, tables, bulleted lists, links, and formatting. Highlighted below is a simple General Content component.
To create this, complete the following fields in a General Content component:
- Title (#3) is the headline for your text, which will display with larger, darker text. In the example above, it says "Headline Here."
- Content (#4) is where the full text of your content goes. This is a rich-text field that accepts images, tables, links, and other formatting.
That's it for a General Content component! They're pretty simple.
General Content - no title
The General Content - no title component templates allows the page creator to add a chunk of text to a page, but without a headline. The text can include images, tables, bulleted lists, links, and formatting. You will find these useful when you need to break apart chunks of text to insert other components, such as videos. Highlighted below is a General Content - no title component.
To create this, complete the following fields in a General Content component:
- Title (#3) is a required field, but when you use the General Content - no title component template, this field will not display. You can enter anything you wish here.
- Content (#4) is where the full text of your content goes. This is a rich-text field that accepts images, tables, links, and other formatting.
That's it for a General Content - no title component! They're pretty simple.
Jumbotrons

Feature Jumbotrons
The Feature Jumbotron component templates allows you to create a content area at the top of your page, in which you can add a headline and some descriptive text. Highlighted below is a Feature Jumbotron.
To create this, complete the following fields in a General Content component:- Title (#3) - you must complete this required field, but it doesn't display on the page. Enter whatever you want.
- Feature Title (#5) - enter the headline that will appear in the Jumbotron
- Feature Description (#6) - this is optional. Enter a brief description, which will display under the Jumbotron's headline.
Internal Jumbotrons
The Internal Jumbotron component templates allows you to create a bar across the top of the page where you can highlight content. You can include a headline, description, and optional background image. Highlighted below is an Internal Jumbotron.
To create this, complete the following fields in a General Content component:
- Title (#3) - you must complete this required field, but it doesn't display on the page. Enter whatever you want.
- Feature Title (#5) - enter the headline that will appear in the Jumbotron
- Feature Description (#6) - this is optional. Enter a brief description, which will display under the Jumbotron's headline.
- Feature Image (#7) - this is optional. Select a background image for your jumbotron.
- Feature Image Description (#8) - if you added a feature/background image, briefly describe the image in this field.
Page Introductions

Page Introduction
The Page Introduction component template creates a headline at the top of the page, with optional body text underneath. This component template is one of the ones you will use the most in Tridion. The optional body text can be brief, or many paragraphs. You can use the Page Introduction component template in place of a General Content component template on a page, but be forewarned that the Page Introduction component template will always display at the top of the published page, despite where you place the component when you insert it into the page. You can only have one Page Introduction component template per page.
Highlighted below is a Page Introduction.To create this, complete the following fields in a General Content component:
- Title (#3) - you must complete this required field, but it doesn't display on the page. Enter whatever you want.
- Content (#4) - this is optional, enter body text to follow the headline.

The Feature Rotator - Default Dark component template creates a rotating image carousel on the page. You can add a title and brief description to each rotator. Pictured below is what a Feature Rotator - Default Dark looks like.

- Title (#3) - you must complete this required field, but it doesn't display on the page. Enter whatever you want.
- Feature Title (#5) - enter a brief title that will display with your rotator.

The Toggle List Section Heading component template allows you to insert sub-headings and text in between toggle items (or below them) on a Toggle page. Pictured below is a Toggle List Section Heading, circled in red.
