Create an Open Footer

This page contains instructions for setting up Open Footers, which are 100% customizable.

Access to Open Footers must be requested from the MNIT Enterprise Web Team, please submit a ticket in order to gain access. You will need advanced knowledge of HTML and CSS to use Open Footers.

If you aren't familiar with HTML and CSS, we recommend using the standard Footer included with all Tridion websites.

Step 1: Create an Open Footer

If you've requested to have access to an Open Footer, the component will be created for you in the following folder:
020 [Your Website] Content > Building Blocks > Website Content > Site Layout > Footer

The Open Footer component will be empty, but you can complete it by filling out the following fields:
1. Name: enter a name for your component here.
2. Schema: select Open Footer
3. Footer HTML: enter the code for your footer. Be sure to validate it before entering.
4. Select the linked mn.gov logo you'd prefer: Minnesota statutes require state websites to have information about registering to vote on them. We make this easy for you by including a Register to Vote link in the footer. Select one of the following from the drop-down (we recommend using one of the options that starts with "register-to-vote..." unless you already have register to vote information elsewhere on your website):
  1. none: if you have a heavily customized footer and have information about registering to vote elsewhere on your site, you can select this option to display nothing for this field.
  2. minnesota-blue: if you have a light colored footer, and have information about registering to vote elsewhere on your site, select this option. It will generate a branded blue Minnesota logo for your footer.
  3. minnesota-white: if you have a dark colored footer, and have information about registering to vote elsewhere on your site, select this option. It will generate a white Minnesota logo for your footer.
  4. register-to-vote-blue: if you have a light colored footer, select this option to generate a branded blue Minnesota logo and linked register to vote icon.
  5. register-to-vote-white: if you have a dark colored footer, select this option to generate a white Minnesota logo with linked register to vote icon.
5. Footer Code Block: (optional) if you have extra javascript, CSS, or other code to drop into a page, select the browse folder icon, navigate to the component, and select it.
When you've completed all the fields, Save and Close the component.
Step 2: Publish the footer

Publish the footer

When you've completed all the steps above, then all you need to do next is publish your footer.

To publish your footer, navigate to 050 [Your Website] Website > Building Blocks > Website Content > Site Layout > Footer

In that folder is a component named Open Footer. Right-click on that component and select Publishing > Publish:

Select the site you wish to publish to and click Publish. This will send the footer to the publishing queue.

Verify the footer looks like you want it to, and edit/republish as needed.
