Troubleshooting the Navigation

There are three common reasons why content doesn't show up in the navigation after republishing it. Please check on each one of these to figure out which is causing the problem (it may be more than one thing!):

  1. The structure group is not set to display in the navigation. For the page or section not appearing in the navigation, right-click on the structure group that contains it and select "Properties" from the menu that appears. In the tab that opens, look for the "Display in Navigation" field and make sure the check box for the environment you're trying to publish to (Live and/or Staging) is checked.

  2. The page is not set to display in the navigation. Open the page(s) that are not appearing in the navigation. Look for the "Display in Navigation" field that is located toward middle of the page. Make sure the check box for the environment you're trying to publish to (Live and/or Staging) is checked.

  3. The structure group is missing an "index" page. Every structure group must have a published "index" page in it. Open all the pages in your structure group and verify that at least one is named "index" in the File Name field. Once verifying that, publish or republish the page to the environment (Live and/or Staging) that it needs to appear in.

Checking and repairing these three things will resolve the majority of missing navigation items. Once you've verified that all of these things are in place, republish the navigation again and your items should appear.

In rare instances, usually with new websites, another problem we sometimes encounter is that the navigation is not displaying at all. This is usually due to certain JS files not being published. You can try publishing everything at 050 [Your Agency] Website > root > js or you can contact us and we'll look into the issue for you.
