Create Search Spotlights

Create an Enhanced Search page

This step must be completed by members of the MNIT Enterprise Web Team. Please submit a ticket and let us know that you would like the search page on your website to be converted into an enhanced search page.

Create the Spotlight List component

After having the MNIT Enterprise Web Team set up an enhanced search page on your site, you are ready to begin creating search spotlights! The first step for this is to establish a Spotlight List component, using the following steps:

1. In the 020 section, navigate to the folder where the components for your search spotlights will reside.
2. Create a new component and complete the following fields:
   1. Name: enter a name for the component here
   2. Schema: select Search Spotlight List 
   3. Spotlight List: this will be pre-populated with "Site Search." If you only have one enhanced search page, leave this field as is. If you are creating a second (third, fourth, etc.) enhanced search page, then you should add a new keyword to the drop-down list for this field, so the system can identify which enhanced search page the spotlight will apply to. Click the green plus icon  at the end of the row. On the page that appears, type a name for your new keyword and then Save/Close that tab. The new keyword will appear in the drop-down menu and you can select it.

Save and Close the component.

Create the Search Spotlight component(s)

First, navigate to 020 [your agency] > Building Blocks > Website Content > [your agency] > Search

That folder is where you'll create Search Spotlight components for each spotlight you need to create. Create a new component in the folder and then complete the following fields:

1. Name: enter a name for your component. 
2. Schema: select Search Spotlight
3. Query Terms: in this field, type in the search term that should trigger the spotlight when a user performs a search on your website. For example, if you wanted the term "Bill Murray" to trigger a spotlight, then you would enter "Bill Murray" in this field. If you want more than one word/phrase to trigger the same spotlight, click the green plus sign icon  and enter the additional terms/phrases on a new line. You can add as many lines as you need for all the words and phrases that should trigger the spotlight. Consider adding lines for possible mispellings.
4. Spotlight headline: enter the headline for the search spotlight.
5. Spotlight rich text: enter the body of the search spotlight. This is a rich-text field that accepts images, bullets, font formatting, and more.
6. Spotlight feature image: (optional) click the browse icon folder at the end of this row, navigate to the image you wish to insert, and double-click on it. 
7. Destination link: this is what the spotlight headline will link to.
   1. Internal: to link to an internal page,  click the browse icon folder at the end of this row, navigate to a component that is included in a published page you wish to link to, and double-click on it. 
   2. External: enter the URL for the webpage you wish to link to.

If you have more than one enhanced search page, there is one additional step you'll need to complete. Click the Metadata tab at the top of the component, and then, in the "Type" field, select which page the spotlight should publish to. 

Save and Close the component.

You will need to repeat these steps for each Search Spotlight you need to create.

Publish the Spotlights

Search Spotlight components are dynamic components. This means that they are not inserted into webpages, but instead are published separately. The system knows which page to publish them to by looking for the associated Search Spotlight List component, and what page(s) that is included in.

To publish the Search Spotlight components, go to the 050 publication for your website, navigate to the component(s) you created in step 3 above, and publish them.
