A quick thank you to all our hard-working content editors out there that have been diligently working at getting their SiteImprove accessibility scores up — when you find new issues along the way, it helps us identify areas of improvement.  This latest round of updates is of no exception.

There are a variety of templates that have been updated to either improve accessibility or further enhance the functionality and improve the user experience.

  • Header Alert Banner — we've made minor accessibility improvements to this content type, addressing errors citing that this content was outside an HTML5 region tag.  That's been corrected and additional ARIA labeling has been provided to indicate the header alert banner's purpose.

  • Data Table — two updates:

    • A minor accessibility fix on the button provided to export the data table, changing the ARIA label to a title attribute.
    • Link data types now support email "mailto" links, and any URLs that are outside of mn.gov now automatically open in a new tab.

  • Personnel Phone-Email Directory — a minor fix to address issues when a phone number was not present the directory table would not render.

  • Footer and Open Footer — A minor accessibility fix to address SiteImprove errors citing that the "back to top" link was outside an HTML5 region tag.  The link has been moved within the <footer> tag.

  • Toggle List Pages (tabbed content and FAQ style toggles) — a variety of updates to toggle list pages:

    • Minor accessibility enhancements for tabbing into active toggles, along with fixes for ARIA attributes.
    • The title field is now marked as optional.  While the title field is still required for FAQ style toggles, it's now optional for tabbed content. This will allow you to define your own heading level within the tabbed content and not be pre-defined with an opening H3 heading.
    • Functionality has been fixed, addressing issues of tabs and toggles not opening up if you opened a page URL with a hash at the end (example: mn.gov/showcase/tabbedpage.jsp#tab-3).  A tabs and toggles now open the selected hash name with its corresponding tab or toggle name.  Examples: Toggle page,  Tab page.
