Create a Multimedia Gallery

Create a headline and introduction for the page

The first thing to build for a Location page is a General Content component with the headline and introductory text for the page, highlighted in red in the example pictured. Below are the steps for creating this component:

1. In the 020 section, navigate to the folder where your content for this page will reside.
2. Create a new component and complete the following fields:
   1. Name: enter a name for the component here
   2. Schema: select General Content
   3. Title: enter the headline for your page here. 
   4. Content: enter the introductory text that will go at the top of your page. This is a rich-text field, so you can add other elements like images, links, etc.
3. Save and Close your component

Create the Multimedia Gallery Configuration component

Below are the fields to complete, along with tips for completing them. 

1. Name: enter a name for your component. 
2. Schema: select Multimedia Gallery Configuration
3. Initial Display Type: select either gallery or list from the drop-down menu. What you select here will determine the default view for the page. The gallery view will display thumbnails for your items, as well as displaying the items in columns. The list view displays all the items in a datagrid-style table. 
4. Column Count: if you're using the gallery view, select the number of columns for your Multimedia Gallery here. You can pick 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 columns from the drop-down.
5. Video Autoplay: select either true or false from the drop-down menu. If you select true, your videos will autoplay when they load. If you select false, they will not autoplay.
6. Audio Autoplay: select either true or false from the drop-down menu. If you select true, your audio will autoplay when it loads. If you select false, it will not autoplay.

Create the Multimedia Gallery Item components

Below are the fields to complete, along with tips for completing them.

Tip: Tridion has file size limits that prevent uploading most audio and all video files. For video files, please upload them to YouTube and then link to the video(s) using the External Source File field below. For audio files, you may need a static account for hosting the files. 1. Name: enter a name for your component. 
2. Schema: select Multimedia Gallery Item
3. Title: enter the name of your multimedia item. 
4. Description: (optional) enter a brief description for your multimedia item.
5. Date: (optional) enter a date in this field by clicking the little calendar icon to the right of the field. A pop-up will appear, which allows you to navigate through a calendar and select a date (forward and back dating articles is allowed). The Time field is in 24 hour time, so for a time like 2:00 pm, you will need to enter 14:00:00.
6. Thumbnail Image: (optional) to enter a photo for your multimedia item, click the browse folder icon , navigate to the image you want to use, and select it.
7. Internal Source File: (optional) to link to a file within your website, click the browse folder icon , navigate to the file you want to use, and select it. 
8. External Source File: (optional) to link to a file located outside your website, enter the URL here.
9. Length: (optional, for audio and video files) enter the length of your file in H:M:S format.
10. Alt Text: (optional, for images) enter a description of your image here, for screen readers.
11. Transcript Source: (optional, for audio and video files) link to a transcript for your file by clicking the browse folder icon , navigating to the transcript component that is in a published page, and selecting it. (If you have not already created a transcript, here's where you can find information on creating a transcript.)

Save and Close the component.

Repeat these steps for each multimedia item you want to display in your Multimedia Gallery.

Create Multimedia Gallery page

1. In the 050 section, navigate to (or create) the structure group where the page will reside.
2. Create a new page.
3. Fill in the Name, File Name, Page Display Name, Dublin Core Title, and Dublin Core Description fields.
4. For the Page Template field, uncheck the "Inherit From Parent" box, and select Multimedia Gallery from the drop-down.
5. Click the Design tab.
6. Click the Add button:
   1. Navigate to the General Content component you created in step 1, select it, apply the Page Introduction component template, and insert it into the page.
   2. Navigate to the Multimedia Gallery Configuration component you created in step 2, select it, and apply the Multimedia Gallery Configuration component template.
   3. Navigate to all the Multimedia Gallery Item components you created in step 3, select them, and apply the Multimedia Gallery Item component template.
7. Close the Insert Component Presentation pop-up window.
8. Save and Close your page.

Publish the Multimedia Gallery page

When you've completed all the steps above, then all you need to do next is publish your page.

Navigate to the page you built in step 3, right-click on it and select Publishing > Publish.

Select the site you wish to publish to and click Publish. This will send the page to the publishing queue. 

You will need to republish the navigation after publishing a new page.
