Multimedia Gallery Item component

Below are the fields to complete, along with tips for completing them.

1. Name: enter a name for your component. 
2. Schema: select Multimedia Gallery Item
3. Title: enter the name of your multimedia item. 
4. Description: (optional) enter a brief description for your multimedia item.
5. Date: (optional) enter a date in this field by clicking the little calendar icon to the right of the field. A pop-up will appear, which allows you to navigate through a calendar and select a date (forward and back dating articles is allowed). The Time field is in 24 hour time, so for a time like 2:00 pm, you will need to enter 14:00:00.
6. Thumbnail Image: (optional) to enter a photo for your multimedia item, click the browse folder icon , navigate to the image you want to use, and select it.
7. Internal Source File: (optional) to link to a file within your website, click the browse folder icon , navigate to the file you want to use, and select it. 
8. External Source File: (optional) to link to a file located outside your website, enter the URL here.
9. Length: (optional, for audio and video files) enter the length of your file in H:M:S format.
10. Alt Text: (optional, for images) enter a description of your image here, for screen readers.
11. Transcript Source: (optional, for audio and video files) link to a transcript for your file by clicking the browse folder icon , navigating to the transcript component that is in a published page, and selecting it. (If you have not already created a transcript, here's where you can find information on creating a transcript.)

Multimedia Gallery Item

• The Title (#3), Description (#4), and Date (#5) fields all display underneath the optional Thumbnail (#6) for each item. 
• If a Transcript (#11) is present, a link to it will display underneath the description.

Shown above is the Gallery view of a Multimedia Gallery page, but there is also a List view available. The List view displays in a table, and how the fields are populated is pretty self-explanatory.

Multimedia Gallery Item (detail)

If you click on a multimedia item in a gallery, a more detailed view of the item will appear. Below is one example of this view, with fields highlighted:

• The Title (#3) displays under the multimedia item.
• The Description (#4) displays beneath the title.
• The Date (#5) shows at the top, above the title.
• The Internal Source File (#7) or External Source File (#8) field are what populate the Direct Link shown at the bottom. If the item is an internal link, the Direct Link will take users to the Multimedia Gallery page. If the item is an external link, the Direct Link will take users to the URL that was entered in the External Source File field (#8).
• Transcript (#11) takes users to the published page that contains the transcript for the multimedia item.

The outcome is very similar to inserting an image into a rich-text field, but one difference is that the image automatically takes up the full width of the page and is automatically responsive to differently sized devices.
