8/12/2020 1:32:07 PM

On June 22, 2020, the Minnesota Department of Commerce requested that Property & Casualty insurance carriers in Minnesota provide the Department with information about claims exposure and payment as a result of the civil unrest following the killing of George Floyd.

Property & Casualty insurers were asked, in response to this event, to report:

  • The number of claims it has received to date
  • The number of claims it expects to receive
  • The amount of money it has paid out to date
  • The amount of money it expects to pay out in claims

This data does not represent losses for:

  • Uninsured businesses or individuals.
  • The amount a policyholder might be insured for, versus the amount of a policyholder’s expected or estimated costs for repairing or rebuilding.

Additional information:

  • Information presented represents data from more than 500 insurers.
  • The data submitted to the Department is governed by Minnesota Statutes Chapter 13, Minnesota’s Government Data Practices Act. It is provided here in summary form in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 13.
  • Data represented includes basic data validations. We expect some adjustments and revisions in the data given the volume and dynamic nature of the information provided.
  • The document(s) below contain caveats related to specific data elements.
