History of B3 Program
The Minnesota State Legislature passed a bill in 2001 to benchmark energy use in State buildings, which began the Buildings, Benchmarks and Beyond (B3) Program. The B3 Program provides guidelines to design energy-efficient and sustainable buildings and tools to ensure efficient operations of existing buildings.
The B3 Program is administered by the Minnesota Department of Administration, in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Commerce, the University of Minnesota’s Center for Sustainable Building Research and outside contractors and consultants. You can learn more about the overall program at the Department of Administration’s Sustainable Buildings website or at the B3 Home Page.
Benchmarking Resources
Minnesota public buildings collect building energy use data in the B3 Benchmarking database.
