For Immediate Release

SAINT PAUL – Are you searching for a few extra dollars for the holiday shopping season, but not finding what you need hidden in the cookie jar or lost under the sofa cushions?

Then make sure you check out the Minnesota Commerce Department’s Unclaimed Property Program to see if you have any missing money that belongs to you.

You can search the free unclaimed property database 24/7 at the Commerce Department website (mn.gov/commerce) or at missingmoney.com.

If you have ever forgotten to cash a last paycheck or reclaim a deposit from your utility company, it’s important to know the money isn’t lost forever.

If a business can no longer locate the owner after a certain time period, it is required by state law to transfer the money to the Commerce Department for safekeeping until claimed.

Every year, Minnesota’s Unclaimed Property Program receives millions of dollars in dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, forgotten stocks, unpaid insurance benefits and abandoned safety deposit box contents.

During the past five years, the Commerce Department has returned nearly $180 million in unclaimed property to Minnesotans.

Search today to see if you have any missing money that can make your happy holidays even happier!
