SAINT PAUL — Minnesotans are invited to stop by the Minnesota Department of Commerce booth to find missing money, learn how to stop fraud and get their official state-certified weight.
As the state’s consumer protection agency, the Commerce Department will be in the Education Building, located on Cosgrove Street just north of Dan Patch Avenue on the east side of the fairgrounds.
At the Commerce Department booth, fairgoers can:
Minnesotans can search the missing money database for forgotten bank accounts, uncashed checks, insurance benefits, stock proceeds and more. Every year at the Commerce booth, fairgoers discover money they didn't know they had!
Commerce and the Minnesota Elder Justice Center will join forces on Wednesday, August 30, to help seniors stop fraud. Minnesotans can visit the Commerce booth to test their wits against Sam the Scammer and pick up a new, mini-version of the Commerce Hang Up on Fraud! toolkit. Perfect to peruse while munching on mini-donuts.
After fairgoers have devoured new fair foods such as the Nordic Waffle or Messy Guiseppe, they can step on the scale to get their official state-certified weight, compliments of Commerce’s Weights & Measures Division.
Medicare is changing in Minnesota
Due to a change in federal law, many Minnesota seniors with a specific type of Medicare plan, known as a “Cost Plan,” may need to enroll in new coverage for 2019.
Experts from the Commerce Department will be available on August 27 to help guide seniors affected by the transition. On August 30, more hands-on assistance will be available from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm when the Senior LinkAge Line will join us at the Commerce booth.
Mental Health Awareness Day: Monday, August 27
Members of the Commerce insurance team will be on hand to help fairgoers understand their health insurance rights for mental health and substance use disorder benefits.
