Notable Project Completions

Minnesota Veterans Home – Bemidji

This project creates a new skilled nursing facility with 72 resident rooms, related support areas, and nursing home amenities on a previously wooded lot on the edge of Bemidji in north-central Minnesota serving veterans and their families.

  • About the site: 80,616 square feet including main floor and partial basement on 16.67 acres with surface parking lots, maintenance garage, landscaping, stormwater retention pond, and geothermal system. Building construction is steel structure, metal studs, with brick and masonry facade.
  • Architect: Wold Architects and Engineers, St. Paul.
  • Project delivery: Construction Manager at Risk, Adolfson & Peterson Construction.
  • Financial Information: Total budget is $50,659,978 funding by Federal, State, and local which includes all consulting, design, furnishings, and construction services.
  • Project Timeline: Ground-breaking was in September 2021 and substantial completion occurred in December 2023.
  • Occupancy: Accepted residents starting in January 2024.

Minnesota Veterans Home - Montevideo

This project creates a new skilled nursing facility with 72 resident rooms, related support areas, a large community room wing, and nursing home amenities on previous farmland on the edge of Montevideo in western Minnesota serving veterans and their families.

  • About the site: 95,513 square feet including the main floor and partial basement on 13.4 acres with surface parking lots, maintenance garage, landscaping, stormwater retention pond, rooftop solar, and geothermal system.
  • Architect: Wold Architects and Engineers, St. Paul.
  • Project Delivery: Construction Manager at Risk, Knutson Construction.
  • Financial Information: Total budget is $63,535,161 funding by Federal, State, and local which includes all consulting, design, furnishing, and construction services.
  • Project Timeline: Ground-breaking was in September 2021 and substantial completion occurred in November 2023.
  • Occupancy: Accepted residents starting in January 2024.

Minnesota Veterans Home – Preston

This project creates a new skilled nursing facility with 54 resident rooms, related support areas, and nursing home amenities on previous farmland bluff on the edge of Preston in southeastern Minnesota serving veterans and their families.

  • About the site: 58,217 square feet one level on 14.43 acres with surface parking lots, maintenance garage, landscaping, and stormwater retention pond. Building construction is steel structure, metal studs, with brick and masonry façade.
  • Architect: Wold Architects and Engineers, St. Paul.
  • Project Delivery: Construction Manager at Risk, Knutson Construction.
  • Financial Information: Total budget is $42,353,599 funding by Federal, State, and local which includes all consulting, design, furnishings, and construction services.
  • Project Timeline: Ground-breaking was in September 2021 and substantial completion occurred in October 2023.
  • Occupancy: Accepted residents starting in January 2024.

Upcoming Projects

Minnesota Veterans Home – Hastings

The Minnesota Department of Veteran’s Affairs (MDVA) Hasting’s campus houses a domiciliary program, which provides an independent living environment to any eligible Veterans, and/or spouses, who need assistance managing clinical, mental health, financial or social well-being. This project will create a built environment to support the physical needs of these programs and make them more effective and valuable. The design will include, but is not limited to addressing living units, resident households, town center, medical & social service support center, veterans services center, education center, dining experience, and overall campus infrastructure.

  • About the site: The Hastings home is set on a 128-acre wooded campus and provides safe, stable housing for up to 145 residents.
  • Architect: Pope Design Group
  • Project Delivery: Construction Manager at Risk, JE Dunn
  • Financial Information: The appropriated state bond funds are $ 77,765,000. A request has been made to the Federal VA for $144,421,000. The anticipated total project budget is $222,186,000, which includes all consulting, design, furnishings, and construction services.
  • Project Timeline: The project is currently in the predesign phase. It is expected that construction will be complete in late 2028/early 2029 subject to receipt of federal funding.

Bureau of Criminal Apprehension – Mankato

This project will create a new regional facility for the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) in Mankato. The newly constructed building is expected to be approximately 45,000 sq. ft. and house investigatory and laboratory analysis for criminal investigations in the southern region of Minnesota.

  • About the site: A 5.87-acre site was recently acquired for the construction of this project. This facility will provide a regional presence for the southern portion of Minnesota to support over 768,000 individuals and 150 partner agencies in the region.
  • Architect: Selected by April 1, 2024
  • Project Delivery: Selected summer 2024
  • Financial Information: The allocated total project budget for all design phases and site due diligence is $4.5 million. A request has been made to the State Legislature for $47.99 million for construction funds.
  • Project Timeline: The project is currently undergoing solicitation for a design firm with the State Designer Selection Board. Groundbreaking is contingent on the availability of construction funds.
