The Energy Assistance Program pays up to $2,000 towards heat, power and water costs, and is free for all eligible households. 

Minnesotans urged to apply for Energy Assistance before Cold Weather Rule ends April 30 to avoid utility shut-offs

NOTE: Every Energy Assistance application received or postmarked by 5/31 will be processed.

  1. If you have already applied, please be patient. Every application received or postmarked by 5/3 will be properly processed.
  2. For emergency situations – if your heat, power or water are disconnected, your heating fuel is gone, your furnace stopped running – contact your local Energy Assistance Program partner IMMEDIATELY.  Find your provider here.

  3. Local Energy Assistance Partners can help with your application!
  4. Grants are based on household size and income, and on utility costs
  5. Up to $2,000 per household – for heat and power bills
  6. Can also pay off your entire past due water/wastewater bill!
  7. It works if you use electricity, natural gas, propane, heating oil or biofuel. 
  8. Grants are paid to your account at your utility company or provider – we do it for you!
  9. The program is open to people who rent AND who own their homes
  10. We can also arrange emergency fuel delivery, and repair or replace homeowners’ broken heating systems.
