September 8, 2021 (Saint Paul, Minn.)— The events of 9/11/01 impacted every American and continued to change lives during the following 20 years as our nation fought a global war on terror.

“I joined the Army Sept. 10, 2001”, said David Nguyen. “I knew that I had just joined the service and what was going on now (events of 9/11) was going to directly impact my journey.” Nguyen went onto serve in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Hear his story, and others of military service, during a viewing of the documentary Resolute: MN Stories of 9/11 & the War, part of the “9/11 Day of Remembrance” event on the Minnesota State Capitol grounds on Saturday, Sept. 11.

The multi-media event will include an official commemorative ceremony starting at 9 a.m. that will feature remarks by state leaders and family members who lost a loved one to the events of 9/11 and the Global War on Terrorism, live music, a flyover and more. Minnesota’s “9/11 Day of Remembrance” is free and open to the public.

Come early, as the event kicks-off at 7:30 a.m. with a reading of the names of Minnesotans killed in 9/11 and subsequently killed as a result of hostile action during the Global War on Terrorism. Bells will chime across the city of St. Paul to mark the moment each flight crashed that Tuesday morning in 2001.

Other elements of the day will include military-connected educational booths on display, live music, a Global War on Terrorism museum display, connection opportunities, children’s activities, food trucks and more. Events run until 2 p.m.

Check the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs website events page for the detailed event schedule. The event will follow current COVID-19 prevention guidelines set by the Minnesota Department of Health and the CDC.

The event is a collaboration of the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, the 9/11 and Global War on Terrorism Remembrance Task Force, and the Minnesota Military and Veterans Museum. To learn more visit www.minnesotaveteran.org/911.
