Minnesota House Updates

Last week, the House Veterans and Military Affairs Division held its first hearing on Wednesday, Feb. 12 where it heard overviews from the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs and Minnesota Department of Military Affairs as well as several Veterans related bills:

HF194 (Knudsen) - Veterans with a disability homestead exclusion increase provision.

  • Passed out of committee on a unanimous voice vote and was referred to the Taxes Committee.

HF195 (Bennett) - Property tax exemption establishment for certain property owned and operated by a congressionally chartered Veterans service organization.

  • Passed out of committee on a unanimous voice vote and was referred to the Taxes Committee.

Minnesota Senate Updates

The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs met this Monday, Feb. 10 and heard a number of Veterans related bills:

S.F. 0586 (Hauschild) - Veterans on the Lake appropriation

  • Laid over for possible inclusion in Veterans Omnibus Bill

S.F. 0613 (Hauschild) - Veterans on the Lake grant appropriation

  • Laid over for possible inclusion in Veterans Omnibus Bill

S.F. 0674 (Seeberger) Mental health services and outdoor activities for currently serving military personnel and Veterans appropriation

  • Laid over for possible inclusion in Veterans Omnibus Bill.

S.F. 0388 (Lieske) State Veterans cemetery burial fee removal for spouses and dependents of eligible Veterans

  • Laid Over for possible inclusion in Veterans Omnibus Bill.

On Tuesday, Feb. 11, the Senate Capitol Investment Committee heard a number of presentations from state agencies on the Governor’s Capitol Investment Recommendations, including the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs.
