On Thursday, February 6th the Minnesota House of Representatives was organized under a power sharing agreement between the GOP and DFL Caucuses. Under the terms of the agreement, the House is organized under a GOP majority currently and will revert to Co-Chair’s of Committees if the special election for House District 40B results in an election of a DFL member, which would bring the chamber into a tie. That special election is scheduled for Marth 11th 2025. The House elected Rep. Lisa Demuth as Speaker, and she will serve in that role for the rest of the biennium.
After organizing, the House updated its list of standing committees and divisions and included in the list of committees is a dedicated Veterans and Military Affairs Division of the State Government Finance Committee.
The Veterans and Military Affairs Division will meet Wednesdays at 8:15 a.m. in Capitol G23.
The list of committee members and staff is available here.
The Committee will have its first hearing this coming Wednesday, February 12th where it will hear overviews from the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs and Minnesota Department of Military Affairs as well as several veterans related bills.
