The 2023 Legislative session came to an end on Monday night, marking the first time a budget session has ended on time in a decade. The legislature is scheduled to return in February 2024, unless a special session is called.
One of the last items passed was a bonding bill that borrows money to pay for infrastructure needs throughout Minnesota. This bill included funding to revitalize the Hastings Veterans Home campus and money to pay for deferred maintenance at MDVA owned buildings like Veterans Homes and Cemeteries.
Since the last update, the governor enacted HF 1937, the Veterans and Military Affairs omnibus finance bill into law. He signed the bill on May 15 with most of it taking effect on July 1. Part of the funding included agency operations for:

There was also changes to the post-9/11 Veterans Bonus Program that allows all Minnesota resident Veterans to apply for the bonus, previously Veterans were only eligible if they began their service in Minnesota and remained a resident. The other change was allowing Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal recipients to receive the highest bonus level.
Finally, The Minnesota GI Bill was also amended to provide more educational assistance to qualified recipients in a year as part of the lifetime benefit and regardless if they are a full- or part-time student.
